Broadly, the classes develop around proportion, light and dark, colour and composition tailored to the needs of each individual. The vehicle for this would be still life as it can be carefully controlled and kept very simple or made more difficult, depending on the ability of each student. This allows you to fully focus on the basic underlying principles, rather than be distracted by unnecessary complications. - paragraph: For beginners or more experienced painters, this is a chance to learn or consolidate previously acquired skills and to further develop them, finding the confidence to pursue one's own style within the structure of the course. A key principle behind these classes is finding the balance between the essence of the painted object and the skills required in formal representation or the mere appearance of things. With loaded brushes at arm's length, painted from the shoulder, Claire encourages students to explore the wonderfully expressive qualities of oil paint. To invite chance, risk and opportunity into their daily practice and above all to enjoy the challenge. - paragraph: Claire Venables - img "Claire Venables" - list: - listitem:  Thursday 19:00 to 21:00 - listitem:  17th September to 26th November '26 - listitem:  £274 - listitem:  Claire Venables - link "Enquire about this course": - figure - figure - figure - figure - figure - figure - figure - img - heading "Term Dates" [level=3] - heading "Autumn Term 2026" [level=4] - paragraph: 14th September to 28th November - paragraph: Half-term – 26th October to 1st November - heading "Spring Term 2027" [level=4] - paragraph: - text: 4th January – 20 - superscript: th - text: March - paragraph: Half-term – 15th February to 21st February - heading "Summer Term 2027" [level=4] - paragraph: 19th April – 5th July - paragraph: 3rd May – Bank Holiday Half-term – 31st May to 6th June - heading "Where are we?"
